De-thatching - Thatch is simply a build-up of dead organic matter (grass clippings) in your lawn. It settles just above the soil and over the space of a few years can hinder the vitality of your lawn.
Although thatch is beneficial to the lawn, there is a limit to the thickness you should allow your thatch to accumulate. Removing thatch allows water, air and fertiliser to move through the turfs canopy revitalising and giving your lawn a new breath of life.
There are a few ways which we can eradicate thatch.
Hollow coring – A process where tiny cores are extracted out of the ground leaving room to fill with sand which allows water, air and fertiliser to penetrate deeper which in turn benefits root growth and a healthier plant.
Scarifying
Done by hand for smaller areas or by machine for bigger areas, scarifying removes thatch by aggressively scratching into the turf, pulling out dead matter and creating room for air. This job also revitalises the microbial activity in the ground to create a sustainable living environment. By the action of thatch removal, your lawn will have outstanding benefits.
